El creador de Jommeke, Jef Nys (1927-2009), tenía mucho familia en Koksijde y también pasaba regularmente tiempo en la costa en Koksijde. En 1992, Jef Nys usó el municipio costero para parte de las localizaciones en la historia La mandolina de Caroline. Ese mismo año, el Festival de Cómics de Koksijde presentó una hermosa exposición y publicó una edición especial del cómic con páginas adicionales. Más de 30 años después, los sucesores de Nys vuelven a honrar el vínculo con Koksijde en la serie de cómics. El esqueleto del cachalote Valentijn no solo recibió en 2024 un lugar de descanso definitivo en el Museo de Pesca NAVIGO, sino que también se ha inmortalizado en el álbum de Jommeke Potvis Valentijn, publicado por Standaard Uitgeverij. La ruta en bicicleta le permitirá conocer una selección de lugares que mantienen vivas las ricas historias de pesca de Koksijde.
