Como ningún otro, la majestuosa iglesia de San Amando (1489-1547) domina la enorme plaza del mercado de Geel. La iglesia decanal es un hermoso ejemplo de gótico brabanzón y gótico de ladrillo de Kempen. Además, cuenta con un interior barroco único, que incluye un órgano de iglesia de principios del siglo XVIII y un enorme tesoro de objetos de arte religioso.
Una escalera estrecha y en espiral te lleva justo debajo de las campanas de la iglesia de San Amando. La torre de casi 60 metros de altura es literalmente el punto culminante de la plaza y sus alrededores. En la fachada sur de la torre hexagonal de piedra blanca se ha colocado un monumento que recuerda la Guerra de los Campesinos. A finales del siglo pasado, la torre fue completamente restaurada. ¡Con buen tiempo, puedes disfrutar de una vista panorámica inolvidable de Geel y sus alrededores!
