Al igual que en otros países ocupados, durante la II Guerra Mundial se saqueó arte en nuestro país y también se compró arte por grandes sumas de dinero. Bélgica siempre ha afirmado que su pasado bélico fue investigado y que en los museos belgas no había pinturas con un origen problemático. Eso resulta no ser cierto.
Así, la Biblioteca Real de Bruselas tiene la obra de Félicien Rops: Buveuse d'Absinthe.
