Just like in other occupied countries, art was looted in our country during WWII, and large sums of money were also spent on art. Belgium has always claimed that its wartime past was investigated and that there were no paintings with problematic provenance in Belgian museums. This proves to be incorrect.
For example, the Royal Library of Brussels holds the work of Félicien Rops: Buveuse d'Absinthe.
