Los Moeren no se desecaron hasta el siglo XVII. El área todavía está por debajo del nivel del mar y el agua excedente se bombea hacia áreas más altas y se drena. El paisaje se caracteriza por carreteras rectas bordeadas de árboles y por parcelas cuadradas o rectangulares. De vez en cuando, todavía queda un viejo molino de viento o los restos de uno que se usaba para elevar agua. El área se extiende más allá de la frontera y se llama 'Les Moëres'.
