De Moeren werden pas in de 17de eeuw drooggelegd. Het gebied ligt nog steeds onder de zeespiegel en overtollig water wordt opgepompt naar hoger gelegen gebieden en afgevoerd. Het landschap wordt getypeerd door rechte verbindingswegen afgezoomd met bomen en door vierkante of rechthoekige percelen. Hier en daar staat nog een oude windmolen of de resten ervan waarmee water werd opgevijzeld. Het gebied gaat over de grens en wordt er 'Les Moëres' genoemd.
