Ekeren es un lugar en Bélgica y un distrito de Amberes. Ekeren fue un municipio independiente hasta el 1 de enero de 1983. El actual territorio de Ekeren tiene una historia que se remonta mucho más allá de la formación del núcleo del pueblo actual en la Edad Media. La investigación arqueológica realizada en las últimas décadas muestra una historia de asentamiento casi continua. Se encontraron vestigios de la Edad de Piedra, la Edad del Bronce y la Edad del Hierro, el periodoGalo-Romano, la Edad Media y el periodo post-medieval. El nombre puede tener su origen en el siglo IX, cuando algunos vikingos se establecieron allí tras el uso de los robles locales. Ekeren formaba parte de la provincia romana de Germania Cisrhenus Inferior Secunda en la antigüedad tardía.
