Boorsem es una parte de la comuna de Maasmechelen, situada a orillas del Mosa, en Bélgica. Kotem es un pequeño asentamiento de Boorsem.
Boorsem pertenecía inicialmente al dominio carolingio de Stein-Elsloo. Era un señorio imperial libre. Los primeros señores conocidos pertenecían a la familia Van Altena. A principios del siglo XIV, Boorsem se unió a la propiedad de Rekem. En 1623, Boorsem fue elevado a baronía imperial, que dependía de Rekem. También las instituciones eclesiásticas tenían importantes posesiones en Boorsem. Estas fueron sucesivamente la Abadía de Herkenrode, la Abadía de Hocht y la Abadía de Beaurepart.
