Eksel es una aldea en la provincia belga de Limburgo y una parte del municipio de Hechtel-Eksel en los Kempen.
La primera mención de Eksel es de 714, como Ochinsala, el nombre base del caserío Hoksent a orillas del río Dommel. Se cree que Ochinsala se refiere a 'el lugar de residencia de Oko': una contracción del nombre personal Oka/Oko y de sala que significa sala, lugar de residencia. En el siglo XI, Eksel se menciona como Ekinsala y en 1153 se hace referencia a Hecsele, una posible contracción de agnis y lauha.
