Ertvelde es una aldea en la provincia belga de Flandes Oriental y una subdivisión de Evergem. Ertvelde se encuentra en la zona del canal de Gante, en la frontera entre el Houtland de Gante y el Meetjesland.
La primera mención de Ertvelde data de 1167 con el nombre de Artevelde. Un documento de 1182 menciona al conde de Flandes Felipe de Alsacia hablando de una "villa de Arthevelde", lo que sugiere que podría haber una estructura mucho más antigua. La explotación de Ertvelde comenzó presumiblemente en el siglo XII. Ertvelde formaba parte del Ambacht Assenede en los Cuatro Ambachten, perteneciendo en su mayoría a los condes de Flandes, quienes lo vendieron en 1649 a los señores della Faille. Los burgmestre, mencionados desde el siglo XII, hicieron construir un castillo motte junto al arroyo Burggraven en el "Hoge Wal", que fue destruido durante la revuelta de Gante en 1385.
