La mención más antigua del lugar aparece en un documento de 877 como villa Uscias. El nombre es probablemente una latinización errónea del hidronímico europeo antiguo usa-ja. Según el documento, escrito por el obispo de Tournai, se le otorgó a Odo, abad de la abadía de Corbie, el permiso para construir una iglesia en Huise, que anteriormente formaba parte de la parroquia de Mullem. La abadía del norte de Francia poseía en Huise importantes bienes que, según la tradición, fueron donados a la abadía por el santo Adalardo, nacido en Huise en el año 751, mientras era abad de Corbie.
