Kumtich es una aldea en la provincia belga de Brabante Flamenco y un distrito de la ciudad de Tienen. Al norte del distrito se encuentra el caserío de Breisem. Kumtich fue un municipio independiente hasta la reorganización municipal de 1977. El nombre Kumtich pertenece al grupo de nombres de asentamiento formados con el sufijo galo-romano -acum. El primer elemento de los nombres acumulativos a menudo es un nombre personal romano. Así, Kumtich se puede explicar a partir del antiguo Comitiacum, con el significado "perteneciente a Comitius". El nombre es comparable al cambio de k a ch en Küntzig en Luxemburgo.
