Mater es una aldea en la provincia belga de Flandes Oriental y desde 1969 es un distrito del municipio de Oudenaarde. Es la mayor subdivisión en términos de superficie. Mater se encuentra en las Ardenas flamencas. Fuera del núcleo del pueblo, Mater consiste principalmente en tierras de cultivo, praderas y campos, todos ubicados en un terreno muy montañoso y ondulado. Por esta razón, y debido a que muchas carreteras aún están pavimentadas con piedras, la Abeelstraat, Kerkgate, Holleweg y Ruitersstraat en Mater son una parte fija de las competiciones ciclistas como la Ronde van Vlaanderen. Se han descubierto restos de un campamento militar romano cerca de la Casterstraat, que etimológicamente se remonta a castrum.
