Emblem tiene un vínculo especial con San Gummarus que, según la leyenda, nació a principios del siglo VII en Emblem como hijo de una familia rica. Se convirtió en un noble del posterior rey franco Pepino el Breve. Después de su matrimonio, regresó a Emblem donde vivió como terrateniente.
La referencia más notable a este santo es, por supuesto, la capilla de San Gummarus que lleva su nombre. Según la leyenda, San Gummarus hizo brotar la fuente sobre la cual se construyó la primera capilla en 1477 para sus hambrientos segadores. La actual capilla barroca data del siglo XVII.
La hermosa capilla allierense del siglo XVIII se encuentra en el paraje de Alliers (‘antiguo Lier’), que posiblemente constituye el núcleo más antiguo de la ciudad de Lier.
Otra joya de Emblem es el antiguo ayuntamiento que a finales del siglo XIX fue construido por el conocido arquitecto anturiano Jaak Winders en estilo neorenacentista flamenco y que ahora alberga el centro de documentación municipal.
