En la lucha contra las inundaciones en Zaventem, se construyó una gran charca de espera en un terreno junto a la Gran Ruta (entorno de H. Henneaulaan).
La zona aledaña y alrededor de este embalse se acondicionó como parque de senderismo. Un circuito de caminos peatonales conecta con un sendero alrededor de la charca de retención y la ruta ciclista hacia Woluwe.
Se hizo un uso máximo de plantas autóctonas (arbustos, plantaciones forestales, rosas). Por razones de seguridad, se colocó una cerca alrededor de la charca de espera con una altura de 1,20 m. La charca de espera y el parque de senderismo fueron inaugurados oficialmente por el gobierno municipal en junio de 1996.
