El Antwerp Pride atrae actualmente a entre 150.000 y 200.000 personas cada año. El momento culminante es el desfile por la ciudad, este año el sábado 10 de agosto. Desde 2019, el punto de partida de ese desfile es la Plaza Sint-Jans. “En los años anteriores nos habíamos mantenido dentro de las Leien”, dice Abeel. “Pero necesitábamos una ruta más larga y también queríamos involucrar a este barrio en el evento. La multiculturalidad de esta plaza simboliza para nosotros la diversidad y la inclusión.”
“Recuerdo que los nervios en ese primer año estaban bastante tensos, especialmente entre los políticos, pero resultó ser fantástico. Nos dimos cuenta de que las comunidades en torno a muchos clichés estaban muy abiertas. Por supuesto, también hubo algunas reacciones negativas, pero en general las respuestas fueron muy alentadoras y positivas. Este año el desfile también comenzará aquí.”
