La reserva natural flamenca De Westhoek (345 ha) es la única zona de dunas en la costa flamenca donde están representadas prácticamente todas las vegetaciones de dunas en un paisaje de dunas ininterrumpido. Las atracciones en De Westhoek son dos rupturas artificiales en las dunas de protección marina (slufters), por las que el agua del mar penetra en el área natural durante la marea alta y da lugar a una fauna y flora extraordinarias.
