En 1985 se fundó Massimo Dutti en España. En un principio solo se vendía ropa de hombre. En 1995 lanzaron la primera colección de ropa de mujer, con una variedad de estilos que van desde lo casual hasta lo refinado y atemporal. Hoy, tienen una presencia comercial en 68 países, incluyendo Europa, América y Asia, con más de 700 tiendas.
Las cadenas pertenecen al grupo Inditex, uno de los mayores minoristas de moda del mundo, con más de 6,460 tiendas en 88 países repartidos por 5 continentes. Además de Massimo Dutti y Zara, las siguientes marcas también forman parte del grupo Inditex: Pull&Bear, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home y Uterquë.
