El Bosque de Soignes, con una superficie de aproximadamente 4400 hectáreas, es el mayor y mejor conservado relicto del histórico Bosque de Carbón, que ha ido disminuyendo progresivamente. Un extenso patrón de senderos atraviesa el bosque. El Bosque de Soignes consta de dos áreas: la parte suroeste del Bosque de Soignes entre Hoeilaart y Sint-Genesius-Rode y la parte noreste en Tervuren y Kraainem, que también incluye el Bosque de los Capuchinos, el Bosque de Marnix y el arboreto de Tervuren.
