Description

Het Zoniënwoud, met een oppervlakte van circa 4400 hectare, is het grootste en best bewaarde relict van het historische Kolenwoud, dat stelselmatig kleiner werd. Een uitgebreid drevenpatroon doorsnijdt het bos. Het Zoniënwoud bestaat uit twee deelgebieden: het zuidwestelijk deel van het Zoniënwoud tussen Hoeilaart en Sint-Genesius-Rode en het noordoostelijk deel in Tervuren en Kraainem, dat ook het Kapucijnenbos, het Bos van Marnix en het arboretum van Tervuren bevat.
