Het Zoute es la parte más oriental de la localidad de Knokke y, por lo tanto, el balneario más oriental de Bélgica.
Antiguamente, había una estrecha franja de dunas junto al mar. Además, había las dunas internas. Entre ellas había una zona de marismas fuera de la duna donde pastaban las ovejas. Un poco más adentro, había pequeños asentamientos de algunas granjas, de las cuales eventualmente surgiría Knokke.
