Alrededor de 1970 se construyeron dos tuberías a través del paisaje De Liereman para transportar gas natural a Francia. La traza es bien visible en el paisaje porque no se permiten árboles altos sobre las tuberías. Donde se mantiene abierta la vegetación, la brecina se conserva. En los lugares secos prospera la brecina arbustiva y en los lugares húmedos predomina la brecina común. En las transiciones, como por ejemplo aquí, puedes encontrar ambas especies juntas. En las zonas más ricas en nutrientes crecen juncales.
