El Olmo de Waterloo estaba ubicado justo al suroeste de la intersección de la tierra hundida y la carretera principal Genappe–Bruselas. Fue el puesto de mando del Duque de Wellington durante gran parte de la Batalla de Waterloo. El árbol fue destruido por cazadores de souvenirs después de la batalla. Fue talado en 1818 y transformado en muebles, incluyendo una silla, hecha por Thomas Chippendale, el joven, que fue presentada a Jorge IV y permanece en la Colección Real Británica.
Uno de los cazadores de souvenirs fue Sir Walter Scott. En 1824, para un encargo de Scott, Joseph Angell, un platero londinense, incorporó la madera en un quaich de plata. Está grabado con el lema de Scott, "Mira Bien". El "Quaich del Árbol de Waterloo" de Scott fue robado junto con otros artículos de Abbotsford House en 1994. Fue descubierto en un mercado libre francés y devuelto a sus legítimos dueños en 2010.
