L'Ulmo di Waterloo si trovava appena a sud-ovest dell'incrocio tra la terra affondata e la strada principale Genappe–Bruxelles. Era il posto di comando del Duca di Wellington per gran parte della Battaglia di Waterloo. L'albero fu abbattuto dai cacciatori di souvenir dopo la battaglia. Fu abbattuto nel 1818 e trasformato in mobili, incluso una sedia, fatta da Thomas Chippendale il Giovane, che fu presentata a Giorgio IV e rimane nella Collezione Reale Britannica.
Uno dei cacciatori di souvenir fu Sir Walter Scott. Nel 1824, per una commissione di Scott, Joseph Angell, un argentiere londinese, incorporò il legno in un quaich d'argento. È inciso con il motto di Scott, "Guarda bene". Il "Quaich dell'Ulmo di Waterloo" di Scott fu rubato insieme ad altri oggetti da Abbotsford House nel 1994. Fu scoperto in un mercato libero francese e restituito ai legittimi proprietari nel 2010.
