Sobre Boulevard de la Gare, Pascal Verbeken escribe en su libro Grand Central Belge lo siguiente: "Mariembourg vivía de la estación. Muchos habitantes eran cheminot, trabajadores del ferrocarril. La Rue de la Gare (nota: Boulevard de la Gard) no contaba, alrededor de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, con ninguna vivienda privada, solo tiendas que funcionaban gracias al tránsito de la estación. Hoy no queda ninguna tienda."
