Este monumento a los muertos de Dinant conmemora las víctimas del 23 de agosto de 1914 . El domingo 23 de agosto de 1914 los alemanes cometieron los actos de violencia más terribles contra la población civil y la mayoría de los edificios de Dinant fueron destruidos. Los alemanes mataron a un total de 674 habitantes, incluidas mujeres, ancianos y niños.
En este sitio, que lleva el nombre del propietario Mur Tschoffen, los granaderos de la Unidad 100 de la Guardia Sajona mataron a 116 civiles .
