Históricamente, la provincia de Brabante Flamenco estaba dividida en Brabante del Este, del Centro y del Oeste. El Centro era la región de las uvas y la achicoria. Brabante Central es el área de habla neerlandesa o más bien "el rectángulo inteligente" entre por el lado oeste Bruselas-Capital, por el lado norte la frontera con la provincia de Amberes y la ciudad de Malinas, por el lado este la ciudad de Lovaina y por el lado sur la frontera lingüística o la frontera con Brabante Valón o Valonia.
También hay una revista 'Brabante Central'. En la portada están los municipios de nuevo: Hoeilaart, Overijse, Tervuren, Huldenberg, Oud-Heverlee, Kraainem, Wezembeek-Oppem, Bertem, Zaventem, Kortenberg, Herent, Machelen, la parte municipal de Peutie, Steenokkerzeel, Kampenhout, Zemst, Boortmeerbeek, Haacht y Keerbergen.
Kortenberg siempre se ha perfilado como el centro de Brabante Central.
