Este museo está ubicado en el antiguo Mont-de-Piete , un edificio monumental del Renacimiento español (1622).
El Museo Arqueológico cuenta con colecciones excepcionales desde la Prehistoria hasta la Edad Media , incluido un sarcófago del siglo IV.
Desde los neandertales en las llanuras del Escalda hace 70.000 años hasta los cazadores del Paleolítico y los agricultores del Neolítico: los Tournai han dejado vestigios de su hábitat y de sus herramientas en numerosos lugares.
Se exponen piezas prestigiosas procedentes de excavaciones recientes y clasificadas como “Tesoro de la Federación Valonia-Bruselas” : un sarcófago de plomo del siglo IV notablemente decorado (necrópolis galorromana de la calle Perdue) y elementos excepcionales del barrio de Saint-Brice donde, en 481 fueron enterrados Childerico, el padre de Clodoveo, sus caballos y su séquito.
