La cruz conmemorativa "Croix des Fiancés" recuerda un trágico evento amoroso en esta región. Esta cruz está cerca del camino Vêquée, que es una antigua calzada romana. Este camino se extiende aproximadamente 5 km al oeste de la Baraque-Michel.
El 22 de enero de 1871, François Reiff y su prometida Marie Solherd se dirigían a Xhoffraix. François, de Bastogne, conoció a Marie, de Xhoffraix, en Jalhay. Marie era sirvienta en Hèvremont.
Para poner en orden sus documentos para el matrimonio, recorrieron a pie los 15 km hasta Xhoffraix el 22 de enero de 1871. Esa noche, comenzó a nevar de repente y una densa niebla cubrió estas colinas. En esta zona desierta, con pocos puntos de referencia, se perdieron. Tampoco encontraron ninguna casa donde pudieran pedir ayuda. Sus cuerpos sin vida fueron encontrados cerca de esta cruz.
