Ella fluye al fondo del valle de Lötschental para unirse al Ródano a la altura del pueblo de Steg. Toma su origen en el Langgletscher, al pie del Bietschhorn, del Hockenhorn, del Wilerhorn y del Petersgrat. Mide 22 km desde su fuente hasta su entrada en el Ródano a la cota de 626 m.
Los principales afluentes son: el Birchbach, el Nästbavh, el Tännbach, el Tännerbach, el Milibach, el Gisentella.
