Ze stroomt naar de bodem van de Lötschental vallei om de Rhône te bereiken ter hoogte van het dorp Steg. Ze ontspringt aan de Langgletscher, aan de voet van de Bietschhorn, de Hockenhorn, de Wilerhorn en de Petersgrat. Haar lengte is 22 km van de bron tot de ingang in de Rhône op een hoogte van 626 m.
De belangrijkste zijrivieren zijn: de Birchbach, de Nästbavh, de Tännbach, de Tännerbach, de Milibach, de Gisentella.
