La Universidad de Basilea está ubicada en Basilea, Suiza. Fundada el 4 de abril de 1460, es la universidad más antigua de Suiza y una de las más antiguas del mundo. La universidad se cuenta tradicionalmente entre las principales instituciones de enseñanza superior del país.
Se considera uno de los lugares de nacimiento del humanismo europeo, en parte debido a la herencia intelectual de Erasmo de Rótterdam, que estuvo activo aquí.[1] En el siglo XIX, entre las personas más famosas que enseñaron en la universidad se encontraba el filósofo y poeta alemán Friedrich Nietzsche , junto con el historiador del arte Jacob Burckhardt. Hasta la fecha, un total de nueve ganadores del Premio Nobel y dos Presidentes Federales suizos han estudiado o enseñado en la universidad.[2][3]
