Kessenich es un distrito de la ciudad federal de Bonn en el distrito municipal homónimo con alrededor de 12,500 habitantes en una superficie de aproximadamente dos kilómetros cuadrados.
Kessenich se encuentra en el sur de Bonn sobre un fondo formado por antiguas terrazas en la Cuenca de Colonia, que a través del embudo del valle del Rin de Bad Godesberg marca la transición de la sierra de Lohra a la cuenca de tierras bajas del Bajo Rin. Un brazo del Rin de la era glacial, la Gumme, se ha incrustado en la terraza baja durante la profundización del valle del Rin en el medio cuaternario.
