Kessenich è un quartiere della città federale di Bonn nel suo omonimo distretto cittadino con circa 12.500 abitanti su una superficie di circa due chilometri quadrati.
Kessenich si trova nel sud di Bonn su un fondale formato da terrazze basse della baia di Colonia, che attraverso la gola del Reno di Bad Godesberg segna il passaggio dalla catena montuosa del Reno alla pianura bassa renana. Un braccio del Reno risalente all'era glaciale, la Gumme, si è scavato nella terrazza bassa durante l'approfondimento della valle del Reno nel medio Quaternario.
