El distrito de Bochum Grumme pertenece en gran parte al distrito de la ciudad de Mitte y se extiende al norte del centro de la ciudad.
En el año 1150, Grumme fue mencionado por primera vez en un documento, el llamado Urbare, de la abadía de Werden como Grumheim. En esa época, se estima que en la comunidad de Grumme existían alrededor de 10 granjas. En los siglos posteriores, la cantidad de granjas y la población no cambiaron significativamente. Alrededor de 1850, Grumme tenía aproximadamente 250 habitantes. Con la industrialización, la población aumentó rápidamente.
