El principal propietario del grupo es la ciudad de Wuppertal con un 99,4 %, mientras que el distrito de Ennepe-Ruhr tiene un 0,6 %. El grupo WSW cuenta con alrededor de 3100 empleados.
En septiembre de 2007, las empresas de servicios públicos se dividieron en WSW Energía & Agua y WSW móvil. Desde 2009, GDF SUEZ posee un 33,1 % de WSW Energía & Agua AG. En 2013, el suministro de agua potable de Wuppertal fue asumido por una empresa propia de la ciudad de Wuppertal.
