La central nuclear de Stade estuvo en funcionamiento desde 1972 hasta 2003 en Stadersand, cerca de la desembocadura del Schwinde en el Elba. Fue la primera central nuclear de Alemania que se cerró tras la salida del carbón y actualmente está en proceso de desmantelamiento. La KKS se encuentra en la ribera sur del Unterelbe, en el territorio de la ciudad hanseática de Stade, en Baja Sajonia, aproximadamente a 30 km al oeste de Hamburgo y junto a la también cerrada y ya desmantelada central eléctrica de aceite Schilling. Estaba equipada con un reactor de agua a presión moderado por agua ligera.
