La isla Bislicher se encuentra entre Ginderich y Xanten en el distrito de Wesel y es uno de los pocos paisajes de inundación que aún existen en Alemania. Geográficamente, sin embargo, no es una isla. La superficie total es de 12 km², de los cuales 10,53 km² están designados como reserva natural.
La isla Bislicher se formó por cambios en el curso del río Rin. En tiempos de los romanos, existía junto al actual Bislich una isla en el Rin que estaba rodeada al sur por un meandro y al norte por el propio Rin. Más tarde, el lecho del río se trasladó cada vez más hacia el sur, desplazando varias veces la localidad de Birten, hasta que hace aproximadamente 200 años se situó completamente en el área del actual Altrhein de Xanten.
