El Stepenitz es un río de llanura de aproximadamente 84 kilómetros de largo, caracterizado por arena y arcilla, y afluente derecho del Elba en Brandeburgo.
Los principales afluentes del Stepenitz, cuya cuenca hidrográfica abarca unos 1.299 km², son el Dömnitz, el Schlatbach, el Jeetzbach y el Karthane. Aproximadamente 30,8 km² de la cuenca hidrográfica se extienden al suroeste de Mecklemburgo-Pomerania Occidental.
