Haardorf se encuentra al suroeste de la ciudad de Osterfeld y al este de Goldschau, en una zona agrícola intensivamente utilizada, a lo largo de la carretera estatal 190.
Una encuesta estadística por encargo del duque Augusto de Sajonia-Weißenfels, realizada en 1663, reveló que Haardorf tenía una población de 56 personas, que vivían distribuidas en 12 granjas y un terreno de jardín construido. Hasta el siglo XVIII, el número de propiedades aumentó a 20. En 1852, la población era de 148 personas y se esperaba que aumentara a 440 en 1905, antes de que hasta 1971 se produjera una disminución a 351 personas.
