Durante cinco años se negoció el Tratado de Paz de Westfalia (1648) en dos ciudades: Osnabrück y Münster. Los diputados se reunieron allí, pero también a lo largo de la carretera que une las dos ciudades. A medio camino hacia el pueblo de Lengerich había un importante punto de encuentro. En 1645, los diputados del Sacro Imperio Romano decidieron aquí que todas las ciudades y clases libres del imperio deberían participar en las negociaciones: el "Lengericher Conclusum". Cerca de la iglesia donde se formó la resolución, hay un monumento dedicado a este acontecimiento. Fue creado por el artista de Osnabrücker Volker Johannes Trieb.
