La primera cita documental pertenece al año 943 cuando el rey García Sánchez I de Pamplona y su segunda esposa, Teresa Ramírez, someten la villa de Villar de Torre al monasterio de San Millán de la Cogolla.[2]
A 1 de enero de 2010 la población del municipio ascendía a 269 habitantes, 146 hombres y 123 mujeres.[3]
