Altea es un municipio y localidad española de la provincia de Alicante, en la Comunidad Valenciana. Situado en la comarca de la Marina Baja, cuenta con una población de 22 657 habitantes .
El nombre de Altea podría provenir del griego Althaia, que significa “yo curo”, o bien de la palabra árabe andalusí aṭṭalaye’ que da lugar en valenciano a la palabra Talaia. Se han encontrado vestigios en el término de íberos, romanos y musulmanes.
