Ponferrada es un municipio y ciudad española de la provincia de León, en la comunidad autónoma de Castilla y León. Se encuentra en la comarca del Bierzo, de la cual es capital.Integrado en la comarca del Bierzo, se sitúa a 113 kilómetros de la capital provincial. El término municipal está atravesado por las siguientes carreteras: Autovía del Noroeste A-6 entre los pK 383 y 392, la antigua carretera N-VI, la carretera nacional N-536 que conecta con Priaranza del Bierzo y Carucedo y la carretera autonómica CL-631 que permite la comunicación con Toreno. Ponferrada se encuentra en la confluencia de los ríos Sil y Boeza, en el extremo este de la llanura berciana, y en el noroeste de la provincia de León.
