El castillo fue construido en el siglo XVII y tiene una planta en forma de estrella de influencia italiana.
En su interior hay pabellones , cuarteles y depósitos , originalmente para pólvora ; más tarde fue utilizado como prisión militar .
Hoy, esta fortaleza se ha convertido en un gran espacio cultural y recreativo multifuncional, que incluye salas permanentes sobre la historia local, salas de exposiciones temporales y tiendas y talleres de artesanía. En el patio de armas del castillo también se celebran conciertos y actividades de verano.
