El busto tiene un carácter realista. La figura de tamaño natural se enfrenta a la catedral, en un reducto instalado en un ángulo de la escalera de acceso con pavimento bicolor y balaustrada metálica.
El cardenal Bueno Monreal fue muy apreciado en los círculos religiosos de Jerez y Sevilla por su contribución en los más diversos aspectos , y esta sencilla imagen suya fue ampliamente reconocida en la ciudad.
Fue el cardenal Bueno Monreal quien consagró la iglesia el 10 de diciembre de 1978, 200 años después de la consagración de la colegiata y la promulgación de la bula que instituyó la diócesis y convirtió la iglesia en catedral.
Este acontecimiento, de escasa trascendencia para el público, queda reflejado en este monumento de reconocimiento al cardenal que asistió al acto religioso.
