La Plaza de Jerónimo Páez está dividida en dos niveles y consta de varios edificios de gran valor histórico y artístico de diferentes épocas.

Recibe su nombre del Palacio de los Páez de Castillejo, un edificio renacentista del siglo XVI con una notable fachada de Hernán Ruiz II. Construido sobre lo que fueron los jardines del palacio del alfaquí Ybrahim Ben Nacer, ahora alberga el Museo Arqueológico y Etnológico de Córdoba.

A principios del siglo XXI, la plaza fue remodelada al ampliarse el museo arqueológico. Durante las obras saldrá a la luz parte del antiguo teatro romano de la ciudad, que hoy forma parte de la visita. De gran importancia en época romana por su teatro, pero también en época islámica por su cercanía a la mezquita, es un testigo actual del pasado romano, musulmán y cristiano de nuestra ciudad, siendo uno de los puntos obligados de nuestro recorrido.
