Caudry tiene una historia similar a la de la ciudad de Gante en Bélgica. También aquí se robó un telar de Inglaterra y este fue el inicio de una próspera industria textil basada en encaje y tul. En 1913 había 650 telares y varios miles de tejedores activos. Caudry es, junto con Calais, el único lugar donde todavía se produce encaje.
