El cantón formaba parte del distrito de Loudéac hasta que fue disuelto el 10 de septiembre de 1926 y se incluyó en el distrito de Guingamp.
Desde 2015 incluye 24 municipios, pero debido a la fusión de Mûr-de-Bretagne con Saint-Guen para formar el municipio de Guerlédan, desde 2017 se ha reducido a 23:
