Pau es una ciudad en la región de Aquitania. Es el lugar de nacimiento de Enrique IV.
Desde 1950 hasta 1990, Pau dependía de la producción de gas y dióxido de azufre. Actualmente, las principales actividades económicas son la industria petrolera, la industria de la aviación, el turismo y la agricultura. En Pau se fundó Elf Aquitaine. Esta empresa es hoy en día una parte de Total.
Pau es el tercer centro económico y universitario del suroeste de Francia después de Burdeos y Toulouse.
Casi todos los años, Pau está incluida en el Tour de Francia.
